Ethnobotanical Study of some Medicinal plants Based on Indigenous knowledge of women in Zanjan city

The traditional use of indigenous medicinal plants for therapeutic purposes has a long history in Zanjan province. The present study was conducted in order to obtain the local knowledge of women about the medicinal plants of the region and their therapeutic effects.This study was managed by collecting, pressing and scientific identification of the plants, a qualitative-questionnaire study was conducted with a semi-structured interview on a statistical population consisting of 90 women in three parts of Zanjan city during the years 2022-2023. In order to investigate and compare the medicinal importance of the studied plants, the relative frequency of citation (RFC) was calculated for all species. The results of this research indicated the use of 193 plant species belonging to 47 families. The largest plant families included Asteraceae with 32 species, Lamiaceae with 21 species, Apiaceae with 18 species, Rosaceae with 15 species, and Fabaceae and Brassicaceae with 12 plant species each. Nasturtium officinale R.Br., Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl, Thymus kotschyanus Boiss. & Hohen. and Malva sylvestris L. had the highest RFC coefficient (1). The most important organs used in medicinal plants are flowers, leaves, seeds, fruits and vegetative parts  and the most important medicinal and therapeutic cases mentioned by the interviewees in this research are: pain reliever for digestive disorders and tonic for the digestive system, antiseptic and anthelmintic applications, treatment of liver diseases and liver tonic, treatment of respiratory disorders, pain reliever and antispasmodic applications and  treatment of skin discomforts The findings of this research showed that high diversity of native medicinal plants in Zanjan province and it makes nessesity to protect this valuable biological reserve even more obvious.
