Abstract: (69 Views)
To express the role and importance of the environment and convert it to monetary value, these resources need to be valued using appropriate methods. Therefore, the study aimsto determine the recreational value and visitorswillingness to pay for Zagros forest in the Helen Forest protected area of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari provinces in Iran using a conditional valuation method and a double-bounded dichotomous choice questionnaire. To do so, first, the sample size was determined based on the Cochran method, and then the data were collected by questionnaire and a face-to-face interview. The Logit model was used to estimate the individual willingness to pay. The parameters in the logit model are estimated based on the maximum likelihood method. The results of the study showed that 83.04% of visitors are willing to pay for recreational use of the forest area. The results of the logit model showed that variables such as the number of proposed bids, number of visits, environmental statement, age, sex, education, income, residence, and duration of travel are the most important variables affecting the probability of accepting the proposed amount for visitors.Furthermore, the annual recreational value of the entire forest area of Helen was estimated at 16430459992rials.These results show the possibility of expanding recreational services, which may consequently increase economic, social, and cultural development. Therefore, it is suggested that the policy makers and decision-makers plan the appropriate budget allocation for the protection and development of this natural heritage.
