Abstract:   (123 Views)
Considering the importance of ethnobotany in recovering unwritten traditions about medicinal uses of plants, a study was conducted in 2024 to investigate the ethnobotany of medicinal plants in the Kalateh Mahin range in the village of Zaveram, Shirvan County, North Khorasan Province. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire and interviews with the residents of the area regarding the use of plants in this area, and information such as a list of medicinal plants in the area along with their family, scientific name, Persian name, local name, vegetative form, palatability, medicinal use, method of use, and part used was recorded. The sample size was also calculated based on the Cochran's formula. The results showed that a total of 103 plant species belonging to 27 families were identified in the area, of which 51 plant species had medicinal uses among the natives of the area. The largest number of medicinal species belonged to the Asteraceae family with 16 species, the Lamiaceae family with 9 species, and the Fabaceae family with 5 species, and the most local use was reported as a diuretic. Common leaves and their infusions were the common form of using medicinal plants in treating diseases. Overall, the results indicated that there are many experts in this region whose knowledge is being forgotten and this valuable information should be kept alive so that future generations can benefit from this valuable knowledge. On the other hand, the existence of this information can be a strategy for achieving new uses in the pharmaceutical and health industries.
