A study on the competitions between two rangeland species Bromus tomentellus, Poa pratensis by protecting rangeland ecosystems

Plant establishment and survival are highly influenced by their interactions. Hence, knowing the possible relationship is needed for prtedicting ecosystem management and vegetation dynamics. The main obbjective of this study was to address the possible competition potentials between B. tomentellus and P. pratensis. Morever, the effect of competition between ground and shoot organs was evaluated in a laboratory work  and sampling was done in Sar Aliabad Rangelands in Golestan province. This experiment carried out in a completely randomized design with four treatments (two control and two competition treatment) in a greenhouse of Gonbade kavous university in 2015. Pots were filled with rich soil and the seeds were also planted by the characteristic pattern aimed at cultivation plants and competitive environment of the plastic pots with diameter and height of 22 cm. In doing so, the pots were irrigated every day.  Prune cultivated species were used to achieve the intended density. In order to evaluate the coverage of these two species in the mentioned pasture. The results showed that there existed no  significant difference in factors shoot dry weight and also height of B. tomentellus species between competition and control treatments. However, the shoot dry weight and height of p. pratensis species were significantly different between the competition and control treatment. The results also indicated that ground organ dry weight and root length between control and competition treatment were significant in the two species.  Morever, shoot organ in any B. tomentellus species in competition with p. pratensis species was not recessive. Ineed, it was able to give a compensatory response although the performance of p. pratensis species decreased in competition with B. tomentellus species and compensatory response was not observed. The results of vegetation measurements in the Sar Alianad area showed hat  B. tomentellus species was twice more than p. pratensis species, reflecting the point that the B. tomentellus species  was more dominnt than p. pratensis species in this ecosystem.
