Identifying factors affecting the sustainability of cooperative entities in natural resource management (Carbon sequestration project of Esfarayen city)

Sustainability of local cooperative entities is a key factor in long-term success of natural resource management programs. This research was conducted in 2023, aiming to identify and quantitatively prioritize the factors affecting the sustainability of participatory institutions in the carbon sequestration project of Esfarayen County, which has been implemented since 2014 over an area of 126,000 hectares with a population of over 6,200 people in 28 rural areas, with the objectives of carbon sequestration, desertification control, job creation, and empowerment of rural communities. .the statistical population consisted of 120 members of rural development groups and micro credit funds in six villages . the research tool was a questionnaire with four dimensions of management - policy - making ( 8 items ) , economic ( 7 items ) , training - extension ( 5 items ) and social ( 6 items ) which its validity was approved by and its reliability was confirmed by cronbach 's alpha coefficient ( 0.81 ) . Data were analyzed using mann - whitney and kruskal - wallis tests in spss software. Quantitative results showed that among the four dimensions, managerial - policy dimension with an average score of 4 / 64 of 5 and economic dimension with the average score of 4.5 of 5 , respectively , have significant effect on the stability of institutions . at the level of components , " the lack of government facilities to support the funds " ( mean : 53 / 4 ) and " low funds " ( mean : 4.5 ) were the most critical factors . In addition, the results of mann - whitney test showed that there was a statistically significant difference between men and women in extension - educational dimension, and women were more important than women. accordingly , developing " integrated support document of local cooperative entities " , focusing on ensuring sustainable financial flow , scheduled training and strengthening the legal status of local stakeholders , is suggested as a key strategy for institutionalization of participation and realization of long term sustainability in natural resource management projects
